Paris Saint-Germain defender Diego Lugano has given Ligue 1 a glowing appraisal by labelling it as one of the best leagues in the world.
The Uruguayan defender who arrived from Turkish club Fenerbahce in the summer, said he did not expect such a high standard of football in France upon his arrival.
“Prior to joining PSG, I knew this was a very competitive championship.” he told PSG’s Official Website.
“But in terms of commitment, I thought there would be more mistakes. I imagined it more like the Premier League in England.
“The League Championship is a beautiful one, with consistent levels. It is one of the best championships in the world and it can still grow.”
He went on to say that the Parisians will look to put Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Athletic Bilbao to one side and put in a performance against Lyon tomorrow night:
“The match in Bilbao has left a scar more mentally than physically.”
“We did not play well. We are all a little sad and we will look to take our revenge against Lyon. If we want to be ambitious then, it will be demonstrated Sunday.”
Stay tuned to 1970 PSG throughout the day as I preview the vital Ligue 1 clash against Lyon tomorrow night.
