PSG News In Brief: 17/10/11

Here are some snippets from today’s headlines:

PSG Stars Excited By Beckham Arrival

It is no secret that David Beckham moving to the club is becoming more probable by the day. With the continuous talk dominating the French papers, a number of the PSG stars have not hidden their excitement at linking up with one of the sport’s biggest names.

“I admired him when I was kid. So playing with him would be really strange to me!” said yesterday’s hat-trick hero Kevin Gameiro.

Sylvain Armand told L’Equipe; “When I joined Paris, you could not tell me, ‘Here, you will play with Beckham one day’. It is a new sign the club has changed its era. Considering his experience, he could only bring a lot of things to the group.”

Finally, Chrsitophe Jallet believes the link between the club and the player is an honour:

“We all know hiring very famous players is part of the new politics at the club. Between us we don’t really talk about Beckham. We just have some jokes sometimes. His interest in PSG? It is an honour. Personally, I have never played beside a world star like him.”

Leonardo Defended PSG In Court

Director of football Leonardo has been defending Paris Saint-Germain in a Sicilian court over the transfer of Javier Pastore from Palermo.

This is due to Rosanero President Maurizio Zamparini accusing Pastore’s agent Marcelo Simonian of extortion and gaining a large chunk of the €40m transfer fee that was paid by the Parisians.

Leonardo remarked that this is an issue that does not concern the French club and the deal was handled impeccably, right down to the finest detail.

“I’m sorry to have to explain something in which Paris Saint-Germain is in no way concerned.”  stated the Brazilian.

“Pastore’s transfer from Palermo to Paris, the largest in the history of France, was conducted in the best way, down to the smallest detail.”

Eric Abidal ‘Flattered’ By PSG Link

Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal has not ruled out a move to PSG after admitting that reports linking him with a move are flattering.

“I always leave the door open, especially for big clubs. It’s quite flattering that PSG is interested in me.” He told Sports.fr.

The 32-year-old has yet to sign a contract extension at the Catalonian club leading to speculation of a potential move. Nevertheless, he is still hopeful on penning the deal in the not too distant future but is certainly keeping his options open.

  1. fantastic Ross, hope you’ll continue doing these type of posts into the future. Any chance you can provide some links to the stories? I get rather bored in the office and would love something to click through and read.
