I think everyone gasped when they read the story in L’Equipe yesterday about Paris Saint-Germain preparing a mammoth €50m move for Lille starlet Eden Hazard this January.
Just about every elite entity in Europe from the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea want the 20-year-old. He has developed rapidly in the last 18-months and will soon become one of the world’s finest players.
However, fresh reports have suggested that Hazard may very well remain in France – but instead of adorning the red and blue of Lille – it will be for PSG. Owners, Qatar Sports Investments have given the green light for director of football Leonardo to try and work out a deal.
The champions rebuffed overtures from the Parisian club back in the summer and did not see the point in selling to a direct title rival. However, with all the money QSI are prepared to offer, it may just prove too much of a lucrative offer to turn down.
As reported by the Daily Mail, their Coach Rudi Garcia has laughed off the story – joking that PSG want to buy their training ground too:
“It seems they will buy Luchini (Lille’s training ground) too. And I think they are also considering digging the tunnel under the English Channel to Paris.” he joked.
Interestingly, Lille’s academy director Jean-Michel Vandamme has insisted that English club Chelsea have been the more interested suitors:
“Eden is certainly willing to stay at Lille at least until next summer. Chelsea has been following him the closest.”
“The Spaniards have not manifested themselves yet, but I think they are playing it smart and will call when they know they have to – I’m talking about Real, but also about Barcelona.
“The buyer will have to come up with a lot of money – let us say he is not currently to go for less than £40million.”
The prospect of Hazard and Javier Pastore in the same lineup is an eye watering prospect. Watch this space PSG fans…watch this space!
