Match Report: Sable 0-4 PSG

Paris Saint-Germain have eased into the last-16 of the Coupe de France after thrashing fifth-tier minnows Sable 4-0.

Braces from Nene and Kevin Gameiro ensured the Ligue 1 leaders did not succumb to a monumental upset.

Sable started the contest brightly, racing out the traps and giving the Parisian defence food for thought. Yoni Journet tested Salvatore Sirigu with the Italian international coming out on top to the relief of central defensive pairing Mamadou Sakho and Zoumana Camara.

The visitors were dealt a huge blow with just 27 minutes played as Javier Pastore limped off clutching his hamstring and was replaced by Christophe Jallet. The prognosis at present does not look too good and the Argentinean could be out for a number of weeks.

A tentative period was soon to be ended after Nene was bundled over in the box in the 35th minute and was awarded a penalty by referee Antony Gautier. The Brazilian subsequently converted to hand his team the initiative.

Kevin Gameiro had looked sprite all game and got himself on the score sheet just after the hour mark and all but ended Sable’s hopes of disrupting the apple cart. The former Lorient man profited from some clever interplay from Nene and Jeremy Menez with the Frenchman rolling the ball across goal for his compatriot to tuck home.

Mohamed Sissoko then slid through Gameiro with ease who bore in on goal and calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Anthiny Sybille to make it 3-0 in the 74th minute.

Nene rounded the rout in stoppage rime after Menez intercepted a lacklustre pass in the Sable half and teed up the number 10 to pick his spot and curl it into Sybille’s bottom left-hand corner.

After the game coach Carlo Ancelotti gave his appraisal saying; “It’s a good result. The first half was a bit complicated because we tried to play too much one-touch football. I wasn’t happy with that. I was much happier in the second half when we played well on the counter attack”.

The evening however has been marred by the injury suffered by Pastore. On that Ancelotti said; “Pastore has a problem. We will know more in the next few days.” stated the Italian.
