Coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the club’s Official Site following the 2-2 draw with Montpellier on Sunday night. The Italian believes the result is good despite surrendering the lead after Alex’s thunderbolt opened the scoring.
Ancelotti said; “We wanted to win, but it was a very tough match against a very organised and disciplined team. I think we probably could have avoided conceding that first goal by paying a bit more attention. At the end of the match, the players reacted well to falling behind. The draw is a good result against a Montpellier side that showed a lot of quality, both individual and collective and remain our number one rival for the title. In the coming matches, we have to control games better and also play better going forward.”
Goalscorer Guillaume Hoarau also gave his view and realises he and his peers came up against an excellent team; “It was a great match. It wasn’t easy against an excellent team. Montpellier isn’t second by chance. We’re happy, we finished the game strongly. We’ll settle for the draw, it keeps us in top spot and we’ll give nothing away. We came from behind and that’s the main thing tonight. We have maintained our advance and when you can’t win, you have to know how not to lose. I hope we can get a result next weekend agaisnt Lyon, even if that will be another very tough game.”
Meanwhile, MHSC Coach Rene Girard believes his side deserved to win. He told reporters after the final whistle; “If one team deserved to win, it was us. We posed PSG a lot of problems. We went behind, came back on level terms, then went in front. It’s a shame that we lacked a bit of lucidity at the end, we lost the ball, and that put us in trouble. But it was a great performance, nonetheless.”
