Ancelotti’s Thoughts Ahead Of AS Nancy Clash

Carlo Ancelotti gave his pre-match presser yesterday, stating the importance of today’s trip to Nancy whilst also indicating his disappointment in the recent slump in form.

Carlo also confirmed Diego Lugano and Clement Chantome are missing for the trip but Maxwell does make the squad, even though his participation is still in doubt due to a lack of fitness.

His team will come up against an abnormal scenario later today by playing on an artificial pitch but the Italian is adamant this will not pose a problem.

Speaking on the fixture in general he said; “Saturday’s match is a very important one for us. Nancy have proven they are a very tough team to beat at home after recording wins over Lyon and then Montpellier. It’s going to be very difficult on Saturday but we have confidence in ourselves and we want to get back to winning ways. We must give our best to take all three points. Concerning the playing surface, playing on an artificial pitch doesn’t pose us any problem, whether that be in terms of our play or the potential for injury. Sometimes it’s better to play on a synthetic surface that a pitch covered in water or in poor condition.”

When asked on his thoughts on the dip in form, the Italian admitted improvements need to be made and his players are striving to do so. “I had to be a little disappointed because we want to play good football and win matches and when we don’t, we’re a little disappointed.” he told. “I’m a coach and my job is to speak to the squad, explain the situation and find the solutions to keep the side progressing. It’s not my style to shout at the players because I’m happy with the way they are working. But we’re not perfect so we need to keep on working and improving and become a solid, compact block.”

He also went on to brush aside any doubts that the team are buckling under the pressure of securing the Ligue 1 title – instead insinuating it is an exciting objective; “We are not scared of winning. On the contrary, I think the players are excited by this objective. They can feel the pressure and that’s completely normal at this level. They are all very motivated to win the title. At any rate, it will be a battle with Montpellier right to the end of the season and the final match. Keep an eye on Lille as well who are coming home very strong and aren’t that far behind. I don’t doubt that we can do it. We are a good team and still co-leader of the championship.”
