Coach Carlo Ancelotti gave his reaction to the club’s huge 2-1 win in Le Classico over Olympique de Marseille last night.
The Italian hopes this is just the tonic needed to get back on song in the title race and boost his player’s confidence.
Carlo: “I hope this win will give us the confidence to get back to playing good football again and show some character. We have won a very important match for this season. Obviously I hope we’ll be able to reproduce this in our next game, physically, tactically and mentally. We played very well in the opening 20 minutes, with real control, after that we worked hard, especially defensively where it was a job well done.”
Jeremy Menez, who opened the scoring and was pivotal to his team all night – putting in a man of the match display – concurred with his Coach. The former Roma man could not hide his delight at scoring in his first Le Classico at the Parc, calling it an honour.
Menez: “The most important thing this evening was to win and get the three points. It wasn’t necessarily pretty, but the team spirit and the attitude was there and that was great. It was my first ever Clasico at the Parc and I scored so I’m over the moon, especially considering it was a match we simply had to win. For me, a true Parisian, it’s an honour to score against Marseille. We’ve lacked a bit of confidence recently and I think this result will do us the world of good in the sprint to the finish.”
Les Parisiens are now joint top with Montpellier in Ligue 1 with only goal difference separating the two. PSG’s next match is at lowly Auxerre this coming Sunday.
