Paris Saint-Germain’s tour of the United States concluded yesterday in sterling fashion as record signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic took just three minutes to score on his debut against DC United. The Swede capitalised on a slick through ball by Jeremy Menez before shimmering the ball with a neat drag back in the box and smashing the ball home with his left foot.

The hosts came back with the elusive equaliser via but it did not dampen the fact that the game and tour as a whole has been a successful one for the club. After the game, Zlatan outlined the team’s intentions going into the new campaign by saying; “We’re aiming for everything. We’re in the Champions League, we have the two cups in France, so of course a club team has to win everything. We have a top team and we are only missing a winning team.”
Ibra only joined up with his new teammates on Tuesday and the feel good factor of his arrival is certainly evident as Christophe Jallet explained; “All the recruits have fitted right in so far. There really is an excellent atmosphere.”
The coach is buoyed by the preparation for the forthcoming campaign. Carlo Ancelotti told the club’s Official Site; “We played well and deserved to win. The weather conditions made it something of a strange game. We were also up against a side who were in perfect physical condition. We did a lot of running and that’s a very good thing in terms of our preparation for the new season. July has been a very good month for the team and I think the next ten days will be too! We will be ready for the start of the championship. Zlatan made a fantastic start to the match with a very good goal too.”
The draw against DC was a repeat of the scoreline against Chelsea where Les Parisiens gave the European Champions a run for their money. Nene’s goal was cancelled out nine minutes from time by his Brazilian compatriot Lucas Piazon in New York City eight days ago.
Marco Verratti also made his debut in that game with other summer signing Ezequiel Lavezzi indulging in some playing time.
All in all, a successful trip across the Atlantic as the team now gears up for a marquee rendezvous with Barcelona at the Parc des Princes this Saturday.
