Coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed in yesterday’s pre-match presser that both Gregory Van der Wiel and club record signing Thiago Silva are in line to make their debuts next Tuesday.
What a setting for the two of them to adorn the Parisien blue too. Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev will be the first visitors to the Parc des Princes in a UEFA Champions League fixture for eight years.
Both players are not in the squad for today’s league encounter with Toulouse but Ancelotti is ready to throw them in for Tuesday’s mouth watering fixture. He proclaimed: “Van der Wiel and Thiago Silva will be ready against Kiev…He (Thiago Silva) will work with the team on Saturday. We have been very careful with him, because he injured himself at the Olympics. We wanted to take our time with him and ease him back.”
Two months after signing for the club, the Brazilian’s long awaited debut is almost upon us. It will be interesting to see who lines up with in the centre of defence as Mamadou Sakho has impressed in recent games, with Alex looking just as accomplished as ever. The defence has had its wobbles though thus far, and the alarm bells were ringing against Lorient but it has settled in the past three weeks. Silva will more than enhance it and its a nice problem for Ancelotti to have three top class centre-backs to choose from, not to mention Diego Lugano who has not even made an appearance this season (and not being part of the Champions League squad).
