Carlo Ancelotti gave his appraisal of the team following Friday’s 2-0 win over Toulouse which sets us up nicely for Tuesday’s Champions League encounter with Dynamo Kiev.
Goals from Javier Pastore and Zlatan Ibrahimovic made it two wins on the bounce and move us into the higher echelons of the league table.
‘Carletto’ could not speak highly of his players after the game and believes the result is important to the team’s morale heading into Tuesday. The Italian said; “This first win at the Parc des Princes, is very important. We played well. It wasn’t easy because Toulouse play good attacking football with excellent organisation. Defensively, we played well and kept a cleansheet. In attack, we produced a couple of good combinations to score. It’s a very good win that builds on the win we earned against Lille last time out. We are improving and I think we’re ready for the Champions League this week. These back to back wins in the league are excellent for the squad.”
One of the goalscorers Pastore echoed his coach’s testament by saying; “It was very important to win tonight, to make it back to back wins. It’s always nice to win at home, in front of our fans. We need to continue like this. For the goal, I saw the goalkeeper come and then slowed down a little, I thought the best thing to do was to chip him and it went in. This win provides us with lots of confidence ahead of Tuesday’s match against Kiev and we need to do as much as possible in the Champions League. We want the first three points of the group stage!”
That is now the focus, the Champions League. It has been eight long years since the club was last there and the excitement in the camp is perfectly demonstrated by Mamadou Sakho who told the club’s Official Site; “The Champions League music.. I’ve got it on my telephone! Sometimes I put it on as the alarm bell to wake myself up, so to play it with the club that I support…”
