This evening’s win over a spoiky Bastia side has propelled us up to third, three points off leaders Marseille who play on Sunday.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti is understandably delighted with his players, believing the victory away to Lille before the international break has played a significant role. He said after the game; “This was a fantastic win, a really good result. The fact that we opened the scoring early forced Bastia to play more attacking football and offered us the possibility to counter-attack. The team controlled the match very well, especially in defence. Today we were also very good in attack. Something changed with the win over Lille and we have grown in confidence.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the man of the moment gave his assessment too. His comments exemplify the attitude he has shown since joining the club. He told reporters; “There’s no such thing as an easy match. You have to walk out onto that pitch and give your best every time. Tonight we gave our best and we won. The team is playing better and better with each game.”
Finally, Dutchman Gregory van der Wiel was pleased to finally make his bow in a Parisien shirt; “It was great to play my first match of football with Paris Saint-Germain today. It was a bit of a crazy match in an incredible atmosphere. The main thing is that we got the win. It’s our third win this week, an excellent result for the team and great for the confidence.”
