Up to second for the time being, five straight wins in all competitions, four in Ligue 1, things are looking rosy for Carlo Ancelotti and his players.
The Italian gave his thoughts on an assured 2-0 victory over Sochaux yesterday with forgotten man Kevin Gameiro putting himself right back in the limelight.
Carlo said; “The team is enjoying a good run. We started well, an excellent first half of football especially in attack. We then controlled our two-goal lead after the break. In defence, we gave them very few scoring opportunities. Kevin Gameiro worked very well, a fantastic match. It shows that he hasn’t lost any confidence and he deserved to score his goals tonight.”
Speaking to Canal+, the French striker gave his take on the performance; “It’s a good team win and I’m there to put the ball in the back of the net. I was hungry. I hadn’t started a match for a long time. All the hard work paid off. The squad rotates and everyone gets their chance. Playing with two up front allows us to open up the space. The squad has great solidarity and I hope we are going to achieve great things together this season.”
Teammate Blaise Matuidi was delighted for his peer and believes the victory is important to keep the momentum going; “We have to continue like this. It’s a good way to start the week, a huge week ahead of the international break. I was very happy for Kevin Gameiro because he’s a mate and we hang out a lot together. I hope things keep going well for him in the team.”
