Carlo Ancelotti insisted a change in attitude was needed from the team but one thing that DID NOT was the influence of Zlatan Ibrahomoivc.
The big Swede was the catalyst for the team once again last night as he inspired the 4-0 romp over Troyes, placing us at the top of Ligue 1 for the time being.
Not only did he bag himself a brace but he assisted the other two goals for left-back Maxwell – who has hit a purple patch of late – and Mr Reliable Blaise Matuidi.
For the opener in the 16th minute the striker latched onto a ball down the right, boring in towards the penalty area and skipping Rincon’s challenge before playing it across the penalty area for the Brazilian to slide home.
After the interval, Les Parisiens doubled their lead. Coming through the middle, Zlatan picked out Matuidi who got in between the two central defenders and dinked the ball in off the post with his left foot.
That essentially killed the game and the visitors had no answers. Ibra ensured the three points with an emphatic left foot strike from the inside left after Nene fed him with a well timed ball.
Finally, a minute from time the striker got another – an easy finish – as Ezequiel Lavezzi played the ball across goal for an easy tap in for the number 18.
It really was the Ibra show yet again and he has accumulated the best goals tally in Ligue 1 for 16 years after 14 games played – netting 12 goals. He has now been involved in 65% of PSG’s goal in the league this season which is an incredible percentage, emphasising his importance to the team.
Coach, Carlo Ancelotti was thrilled with the win and the return to form after the last couple of weeks. Next up is the Coupe de la Ligue clash with – you would have to say – title rivals Saint-Etienne. It is a game Carletto wants to win to book a place in the last-four; “I’m very happy after an excellent week for us. After qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League, we are back to winning ways at home. Obviously we need to keep working. The squad’s response after the Rennes loss was very good. The next match against Saint-Etienne is also very important because we want to give it the absolute maximum in the Coupe de la Ligue. It will be very difficult because Saint-Etienne are a good team, who beat us here at the Parc, but we want to win.”
