PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN VS BASTIA
VENUE: PARC DES PRINCES
DATE: 8TH FEBRUARY 2013
Paris Saint-Germain can extend their lead at the top by six points with victory over Bastia tomorrow night. It would certainly crank up the pressure on the chasing pack if victory was obtained and to open a cushion like that at this stage of the season is more than welcome.
Marseille are away to Evian on Sunday as Lyon entertain 2011 champions Lille at the Stade de Gerland. Both are left reeling after their defeats last weekend so it will be interesting to see if they can brush aside that with a backlash against their opponents.
Preparation for the game tomorrow has been minimal to say the least. With internationals occurring on Wednesday, Carlo Ancelotti will have to make the best use of his squad. The likes of Javier Pastore, Clement Chantome and Christophe Jallet have been at Camp des Loges all week having not received call-ups from their national teams. You will be certain that they will start tomorrow night.
Not everyone completed 90 minutes which is good news. Ezequiel Lavezzi only played quarter of an hour for Argentina against Sweden and Zlatan Ibrahimovic only played the first-half. So fatigue will not be as big an issue as it could have been had the vast majority completed their matches.
Mamadou Sakho, who has been in sterling form, did play the entirety of France’s game against Germany. Ancelotti has already said that he will be rested in his pre-match presser . Good news though, Alex is back and is ready to play after the last month out through injury. He will partner Zoumana Camara or Sylvain Armand in central defence.
Marco Verratti, who gave his own presser after Monsieur Ancelotti, scored his first Azzurri goal against Holland on Wednesday night to salvage a 1-1 draw in stoppage time. The Italian reaffirmed his happiness in Paris, expressing his pride at playing with some of Europe’s best; “I am very happy to be part of this club. It was a personal choice to live here and I am proud to play alongside players such as Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Thiago Motta or Lavezz. It is a real chance. I also have a huge respect for the coach.”
Meanwhile, David Beckham, who has been training in London with Paul Clement and a few other coaches from the club, will join up with the group at Camp des Loges after the Valencia game next week.
