FC SOCHAUX VS PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
VENUE: STADE AUGUSTE-BONAL
DATE: 17TH FEBRUARY 2013
KICK-OFF: 20:00 (GMT)
There will be no David Beckham in the squad to face Sochaux tonight as we seek our fifth consecutive league win.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in his pre-match presser yesterday that the trip to Sochaux is a little too early for the former England captain who began his training at Camp des Loges on Wednesday. However, he will be in line to make his debut in the classique against Marseille next weekend.
Becks is not the only notable absentee for today. Lucas Moura is also out after picking up a knock during the midweek win in Valencia and Jeremy Menez is also out with a groin injury. Thiago Silva and Thiago Motta are still absent so Ancelotti will need to shuffle the pack somewhat. He hinted that Kevin Gameiro could start alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, reverting to a possible 4-4-2. There is certainly some food for thought for the Italian.
The performance in midweek was superb for 89 minutes bar the madness at the end which has given Valencia hope for the return-leg in just over two weeks’ time. We will be hoping to continue the sterling form of late against today’s opponents, keeping a foothold of top spot. FCSM currently sit in 17th place, only teetering on the cusp of the bottom three due to goal difference. They have also been heavily reliant on Sloan Privat and Cedric Bakambu who have accumulated nine goals between them. Their form at the Stade Auguste-Bonal has been patchy to say the least. Winning just four games there all season they have also lost six which will give Paris Saint-Germain encouragement.
Meanwhile, a couple of landmarks could be reached by two Parisiens later tonight. Blaise Matuidi is in line to make his 250th appearance in Ligue 1 whereas Sylvain Armand is on the verge of making his 400th in France’s top-flight.
