SC Bastia 0-3 Paris Saint-Germain
1970 PSG Man Of The Match: Ezequiel Lavezzi
Paris Saint-Germain coasted to a comfortable 3-0 victory on the island of Corsica against SC Bastia this afternoon. Les Parisiens who were much changed ahead of the Champions League second-leg with Bayer Leverkusen hardly broke a sweat in the glaring sunshine on Cap Corse.
The skipper Thiago Silva was rested and in came young Marquinhos alongside Alex. Blaise Matuidi was also on the bench but the positive thing is that in came Adrien Rabiot who completed over an hour which is brilliant after his injury woe back in January. Lucas Moura and Ezequiel Lavezzi kept their places in the team and were the catalysts along with Ibra in the victory. Lavezzi’s new found confidence is becoming more apparent with each game. He nearly teed up Lucas for the opener within 20 seconds but was only denied by the trailing heel of Francois Modesto.
Little Lucas was a thorn in SCB’s side for most of the first-half. He came inside, ran at the back-line and really gave them a headache. He – along with Lavezzi – is brimming with confidence at the moment and you have to give the coach credit. They have warranted starting berths and because of that they are getting a consistent run in the team. Edinson Cavani who could have started missed out on the group having been in Uruguay during the week for personal reasons (his divorce).
Lucas was the architect for the opener and Zlatan’s 23rd league goal. A lovely dinked ball in by the number 29 was met by the Swede who headed home. 13 minutes later, Ibra produced yet another stunning piece of magic to get Lavezzi in behind the defence with a diligent flick and the Argentine finished with aplomb. The finish from ‘El Pocho’ summed up his form at the moment. It was expertly taken but the assist by Ibra was out of this world.
That more or less ensured the win to be honest. Bastia offered very little in attack leaving Salvatore Sirigu to bask in the sun for the majority of the 90.
We were in cruise control after the interval and we did take our foot off the gas a little. Nevertheless, Lavezzi wrapped up a fine performance in the dying embers via another Zlatan assist.
The win had put us 11 points clear momentarily but AS Monaco have cut that back down to eight following their win at home to Sochaux.
Blanc lauded it as a great victory and also paid homage to the defence as well as the attack. The club has set a new record by scoring 102 goals in a season which beats last season’s tally of 101.
