Since returning from injury at the beginning of November on Lorient’s artificial pitch, Ezequiel Lavezzi has once again demonstrated his unselfish qualities that make him one of the club’s most popular figures. His assist for Edinson Cavani on Tuesday night in the 3-1 victory over Ajax was an inclination of that.
‘Pocho’ has had to contend with constant speculation regarding is future ever since the end of his first season at the club and beyond. This intensified greater than ever over the course of the summer during our pursuit of Angel di Maria. Due to FFP regulations, one of the marquee names at the club needed to depart in order for a deal to be brokered with di Maria’s club at the time Real Madrid. Lavezzi looked to be that ‘marquee’ name that would have to seek pastures new.
In the end, negotiations broke down with the European champions and di Maria subsequently headed to Old Trafford. But as SEMPREINTER.com has been reporting, Italian giants Internazionale have rekindled their interest in the Argentine. Roberto Mancini, the new head coach of the Nerazzurri for a second time, is a keen admirer of the player after his exploits with Napoli. Silvia Vallini from ‘Sky Sport 24’ reaffirms that by saying that he is a prime target for them next summer.
Of course much can change from now until then but since his return Lavezzi has started all five games which indicates the trust Laurent Blanc has in him. Of course, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic overcoming his heel injury and a number of midfield personnel suffering from niggling injuries, including suspensions, the coach has had to tinker with things. But Lavezzi has remained a predominant figure in the team over the last four weeks.
He missed the international break which was hugely beneficial to not only the player in terms of getting his fitness up to speed but also the coach who had the opportunity to work with some of his senior pros. It is certainly paying off. Pocho netted the winner last Friday against Metz and played a key role in the opener against Ajax on Tuesday night.
The latest reports of a move back to Italy are something that will just not go away. But, on current form, the infectious Argentine has done terrific to come back in the manner that he has. When Lucas Moura is fully fit again and Ibra getting sharper with each minute he plays, the coach has a decision to make as to who will be his front-three for the immediate future.
Lavezzi has no doubt given him food for thought.
