The difference between finishing first and second in a Champions League group is vast. The level of quality a club will face in the last-16 by finishing as runner-up is enormous. And we will potentially find that out this morning.

The 3-1 defeat to Barcelona last week meant that they went through as group winners. Having took the lead and knowing that anything but a defeat would give us that accolade, we were unable to do it.

So, there is a strong possibility we will face one of the major European heavyweights such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and the European champions Real Madrid. It also means that the first-leg will be played at home which is another potential disadvantage.

If we are to proceed into the last-eight for a third successive year, we will more than likely have to do it the hard way.

Here is a list of the clubs in the hat. We will not be drawn against Monaco due to country protection seeding or Barcelona having faced them in the group.

Group winners:

Atletico Madrid (ESP)

Real Madrid CF (ESP)

AS Monaco FC (FRA)

Borussia Dortmund (GER)

FC Bayern Munich (GER)

FC Barcelona (ESP)

Chelsea (ENG)

FC Porto (POR)

Runners-up:

Juventus (ITA)

FC Basel (SWI)

Bayer Leverkusen (GER)

Arsenal (ENG)

Manchester City (ENG)

Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)

Schalke (GER)

Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)
