The Absence of Lavezzi & Cavani Leaves A Bitter Taste From The Victory Over Inter

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Internazionale in the mid-season friendly last night thanks to a second-half goal from Yohan Cabaye. Instead of looking at the positives of the last four days – and capping it off with a win – the club has been embarrassed by a no-show from both Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani.

Both players – who were supposed to arrive on Sunday – have not even flown to Morocco. Lavezzi allegedly has personal problems and has remained in South America. Cavani’s no-show is vaguer. But, with both players constantly linked with moves away from the club, this is a strange situation. Especially as they are two of the bigger names at the club!

Laurent Blanc has been put in an awkward position and it is not right. The coach has been buoyant over the last few days and this has put a dampener on things.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has said that PSG and Inter had a brief discussion about Lavezzi yesterday during the pre-match dinner. The Italians are keen on a move for the player and with there being a match scheduled, it made sense for the clubs to discuss. However, Di Marzio believes Les Parisiens want to build bridges with Pocho first but will fine him for the no-show.

In my opinion, he has let himself down massively. It is just not on! Player power is absurd at times and if Lavezzi has not shown up for a plausible reason, then it is an absolute disgrace which reeks of arrogance. The same goes for Cavani. The club does not need to put up with that kind of behaviour.

Blanc confirmed to reporters after the win over Inter that decisions will need to be made upon their return which will be on January 2nd; “We’re waiting for certain explanations as they arrive and we will take decisions from a sporting perspective and from the club’s”.

It is a brutally honest explanation and definitely indicates that the club are considering moving them on.

More from this will unravel over the coming days I am sure.
