Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi were reintegrated back into first-team training on Sunday morning after completing their two-game suspension by the club. The club’s official Instagram posted a photo of Cavani training with the caption; ‘Sunday, everybody’s back on the training pitch #TrainingSession #Cavani #PSG’. Cavani tweeted himself saying ‘Finally back with the group’. So, the Matador and El Pocho are seemingly in contention for tomorrow’s Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final with Saint-Etienne.
Coach Laurent Blanc spoke on the two players following the defeat to Bastia where he said “we have punished ourselves” in regards to their suspension; and in a way he is right. The club, especially the coach, needed to take a stance on the matter. You cannot have players showing a total disregard to the rules but by disciplining them, they missed the Bastia defeat where either could have made a difference.
It is all hindsight of course but now is time for action. You expect the two of them to knuckle down now after being humbled but time will tell. The onus is on them to prove to the Parisian support that they care about the club and want to succeed. If they are in the squad for tomorrow, then there is no better place to start than in a cup quarter-final at the Stade-Geoffroy Guichard.
