Laurent Blanc confirmed it in yesterday’s pre-match presser that Lucas Moura, Yohan Cabaye and Serge Aurier were all ruled out of tonight’s clash with Chelsea. Thankfully, the likes of Thiago Motta, Blaise Matuidi, Marquinhos, Maxwell, Gregory Van der Wiel and Javier Pastore have all been named in the squad.
How fit are they? Well in the case of Pastore he has just returned to training in the last few days after a calf injury so it will be naive to think that he will not be rusty. Motta missed the game against Caen with a similar complaint where as Matuidi and Maxwell both picked up knocks during the 2-2 draw. Marquinhos who came off at half-time makes the group and so does Van der Wiel who limped out of training on Sunday.
Despite the setbacks, Blanc was defiant in his presser by saying that the players who start tonight will be at 100% and they need to be against a side of Chelsea’s calibre. He said; “It’s not the best preparation for the match, but we have to deal with it. We will see after training who we can count on. You can’t go into a Champions League match against Chelsea if you’re not 100%. Those that play, will be. We will put out a very competitive team, with quality players who have plenty of Champions League experience”.
Meanwhile Blues boss Jose Mourinho had his say on PSG in his press conference by saying; “These are two big matches, against an excellent opponent. Last season, we eliminated Paris, but lost at the Parc des Princes. One little detail made the difference. We didn’t win because we were better than them, but because we scored an away goal. Over the two seasons, Paris has almost the same team, the same players plus David Luiz, and the same coach. So they are in a good position to go through. When you reach this stage of the competition, all 16 teams can win the title”.
