The biggest news over the last few days has of course been Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s meeting with the club in Doha regarding his future. The Swede along with agent Mino Raiola met up with President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Deputy Sporting Director Olivier Letang.
The talks were positive according to Le Parisien. Zlatan did not in any way indicate that he was unhappy or sought a move to AC Milan. Instead he was assured that was still a key part to the Parisian project and the club want him to honour his final year. It was also revealed in Le Parisien that the player’s salary has decreased by €300,000 per month as he enters the last year of his contract. This I am sure was also discussed by all parties.
Nevertheless, the 33-year-old should be a PSG player come the start of the season as he looks to break Pauleta’s goalscoring record. This is a huge incentive for him as he looks to bow out of Paris on a high in 2016.
As much talk as there has been about possible departures, rumours about potential incomers has been relatively modest. But reports today from Le Parisien claim that Manchester United’s Angel di Maria remains the number one target for the football club. If there is no developments on that front, then Barcelona’s Pedro would be an alternative.
One deal that has gone through is Alphonse Areola completing a season long loan to Villarreal in Spain. Having excelled for Bastia last season, this is a significant move for the 22-year-old. The chance to test himself in arguably the best league in the world as well as in European competition can only be good for him. The domestic treble winners hold this lad in high regard and no doubt can be the successor to Salvatore Sirigu in a year or two.
