Paris Saint-Germain may have been beaten on penalties by Chelsea last Saturday but it was yet another good workout for Les Parisiens in front of a bumper crowd across the Atlantic.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted in the initial 1-1 draw but the French champions were downed by their English counterparts via penalties. Ibra took his goal exceptionally well but will be remembered for what appeared to be an apparent elbow on Blues skipper John Terry. The incident blew over during the game but the actions of the big Swede have been questioned. Did he mean it? Make up your own mind.
Still, that was the only blemish really from the performance as the lads now gear up for the final game of the International Champions Cup against Manchester United. This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs and will be great preparation for the Trophees des Champions clash with Lyon this weekend.
Will Thiago Motta be involved in those upcoming games as he was against Chelsea? Well, that remains to be seen but the midfielder once again remonstrated publically his desire to leave. After the game on Saturday he said his stance has not changed and that he eyes a move to Spain with his former club Atletico Madrid. As reported by Le Parisien, TM said; “Yes I want to leave. The club knows my will is to leave. We talked, we will continue to talk. In the end, it will be Nasser (Al-Khelaifi) that will decide my future, I think. I will play but the most important thing is that I was sincere and honest. My will is to leave and I need to do new things for my career.”
He then went onto hint that a move to Atletico is where he has his heart set on; “I have something in my head and I know it came out in the press. We talked about Atletico Madrid, a former club where I have not done everything I wanted to do like all the clubs I have been at before. This is an important challenge.”
As Motta said, Al-Khelaifi will have the final say and is due to meet with the player in Paris after the American tour.
One player on his way in it seems is Angel di Maria. This has caused quite a buzz in the Parisian ranks and no more so than with Zlatan who welcomes the news. Ibra said; “I don’t know if it is done (the deal) but of course, if you get a chance to play with Di Maria it is a fantastic thing. The guy has won everything. He is a fantastic player who plays for the team. He brings pace to a team. He brings quality, big quality and for sure he will make our team even better than it is today. He is welcome and we will receive him with open arms.”
David Luiz, a former teammate with Di Maria during their days at Benfica also said; “We want to win the Champions League and of course Di Maria is a player that can help us go up another step”.
