Paris Saint-Germain could not have signed off for the international break in better style on Saturday night. The 5-0 thrashing of Toulouse at the Parc des Princes consolidated our imperious lead at the top of the table, and thus maintaining an envious 10-point lead ahead of second-placed Lyon.

Goals from Angel di Maria, Lucas Moura, Ezequiel Lavezzi and a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic put the relegation strugglers to the sword in front of 47,381 spectators, including Woody Harrelson!

It was as strong a team Laurent Blanc could have put out. Marco Verratti was absent of course after picking up an injury in Madrid but Adrien Rabiot who has impressed came into the fold. Layvin Kurzawa replaced Maxwell as Gregory Van der Wiel made a rare start in place of Serge Aurier.

Toulouse did not help themselves though. Zlatan’s first goal summed that up when Marcel Tisserand comically assisted him with a header across the six-yard box to make it 2-0 after Di Maria opened the scoring with a freekick.

Van der Wiel made most of his opportunity, playing some telling balls into the box and one was capitalised on by substitute Lucas to head home in the second-half. Les Parisiens were absolutely cruising at this point.

Lucas injected some dynamism into the game and his role in the build-up to fourth goal remonstrated that. His jinking run and silky skills culminated with a shot on goal that was parried away by Ali Ahamada but there was Ibra to capitalise on the rebound.

TFC’s morale was shot to pieces by this point and substitute Lavezzi capitalised on some more slack defending to round off the scoring.

It was a great response following the disappointment in the Bernabeu where we put in our best performance. Unfortunately, lady luck was not on our side that night.

The coach was buoyed by what he saw against Toulouse. As quoted by the club’s official site he said; “In the first half, I was most pleased by everyone working hard to win back possession. We needed to focus and show the right attitude, to always want the ball. I told the players they would be coming on and they showed their worth off the bench. 35 points from a possible 39? It’s a good thing. My team is playing very well at the moment.”
