‘Round two, fight!’ Well, lets hope for none of that but you get my drift with the Mortal Combat reference. The Paris Saint-Germain / Toulouse triple bill continues tonight with a round of 16 clash in the Coupe de France. After our 1-0 win at the Stadium Municipal on Saturday to keep our incredible unbeaten start to the domestic season intact, there is a genuine belief that we can complete a second successive domestic quadruple.
Toulouse may be in a relegation battle at present but their form prior to our victory has been as good as anyone. They showed resolved on Saturday and were unlucky not to take the lead via Wissam Ben Yedder. The Frenchman rattled the woodwork but had that gone in, the result may have been different.
Our visitors tonight got to this point after a 5-0 thrashing of amateur side Entente at the beginning of the month. Their defeat at the hands of us was actually their first in seven games, which is not bad going at all for a side who has struggled for so much of the season.
We have a few absentees though. Javier Pastore and Marquinhos both had to come off injured during the match last Saturday so are ruled out. Thiago Silva continues to nurse the ligament damage he sustained in his knee. And, Kevin Trapp has been left out as standard protocol for the cup games. Salvatore Sirigu will be in goal tonight with Nicolas Douchez on the bench.
Angel di Maria though is in the squad having trained on Sunday. He missed the weekend with a foot injury he picked in the 2-1 win over Lyon last week.
