Memory Lane: How Times Have Changed For PSG & Man City Since They Last Met

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City may be new to each other in the Champions League but this will not be the first meeting between the two clubs in European competition. Eight years ago they met in the UEFA Cup in December 2008 at the then called City of Manchester Stadium.

City had already qualified from Group A but we went into that game bottom of the group that also consisted of FC Twente, Racing Santander and Schalke. Les Parisiens would end up finishing third and qualifying for the knockout-stages thanks to a 4-0 thumping of Twente at the Parc des Princes. We would make it all the way to the quarter-final before Dynamo Kiev beat us 3-0 on aggregate. It would be one of our best European runs for some time.

Not one solitary PSG player remains from the team we put out against City but they still have the likes of Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta and their captain Vincent Kompany. This was the season they were taken over and shocked the football world by signing Robinho that summer.

City team; Hart, Zabaleta, Dunne, Ben-Haim, Garrido, Sturridge, Ireland, Kompany, Vassell (Hamann 76), Elano (Mwaruwari 49), Jo (Evans 65).

Substitutes not used: Schmeichel, Logan, Berti, Caicedo.

PSG team; Landreau, Traore, Camara, Bourillon, Sakho, Pancrate (Giuly 69), Makelele (Armand 59), Clement, Rothen, Luyindula, Kezman (Hoarau 69).

Substitutes not used: Bete, Ceara, Mabiala, Ngoyi.

Only 25, 626 people turned up on the night. It will be more than double that at the newly revamped Etihad this time around and you can be rest assured that the Parc will be packed to the rafters at the start of April.
