Memory Lane: Zlatan Steals The Show On His Ligue 1 Debut

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s last ever game for Paris Saint-Germain is fast approaching. If he can bow out by putting one over Marseille in the Coupe de France Final on Saturday, the city may very well erect that statue of him in place of the Eiffel Tower.

The big Swede is now immortalised in the DNA of the club but we didn’t know just how special he would be upon his arrival in 2012. But, in the first game of the season in 2012/13 we were trailing 2-0 at home to Lorient at half-time. The visitors on the day clearly had not read the script as Zlatan’s inaugural Ligue 1 game in Parisian blue looked to be heading for a massive anti-climax.

That wouldn’t do for the big man as he stole the show to net a brace and bring us back on level terms. In the 64th minute he brought the ball down with his chest before volleying past goalkeeper Fabien Audard.

And then – as he has done so many times from the penalty spot – dispatched with aplomb in the 89th minute to rescue a point. His celebration epitomised a fitting arrival as if to say; ‘I AM HERE!’

The rest as they say, is history!
